| was born and
raised in the small Wayne County community of Pikeville, NC (better known as Patetown
to local folks.) She began creating artworks as soon as she was able to hold a
pencil. In fact some of her first creations were horses and stick men drawn in
her first Bible with pen while sitting beside her mother and father in church,
and on the walls of the old packhouse where her family "took off" tobacco.
With that same desire and creative heart, she's still at it after 40 years! Inspired by her mother creating posters for the annual Halloween carnival at Pikeville Elementary School, her "Aunt" Ladell who was an art teacher as an elementery school who was always supplying her with materials, her brother's fearlessness, and her sisters' support through the years and tender critiques - she has finally decided to chase the dream that she has had since a child of going public with her works. Her work was previously centered around landscapes and still life. Since the birth of her son and the death of her father, her interests have changed, and she now captures "Life" as it is reflected in people, animals and nature. Penny has studied through the Famous Artists Schools, Inc. under other inspiring artists, and at Barton College in Wilson, NC. Her artwork has previously been displayed only on family and friends' walls, entered in local fair events, and donated to church auctions. Until now. Penny still resides in Wayne County, surrounded by her family, in a small community where she can gather inspiration from the "simpler" life and familiar surroundings of her North Carolina home. | |||
